Why People Enter Saqar (Hellfire) – A Warning from Surah Al-Muddaththir

📖 Context & Interpretation
These verses (Al-Quran 74:41–46) describe a scene on the Day of Judgment.
Al-Muddaththir - (The Cloaked One)
عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ٤۱
About the criminals,
(Al Quran 74:41)
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ٤۲
[And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?"
(Al Quran 74:42)
قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ٤۳
They will say, "We were not of those who prayed,
(Al Quran 74:43)
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ٤٤
Nor did we used to feed the poor.
(Al Quran 74:44)
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ٤٥
And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],
(Al Quran 74:45)
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ٤٦
And we used to deny the Day of Recompense

Translation: Saheeh International
The righteous people will ask the criminals in Hell (Saqar) about the reasons they ended up there. Their answers reveal the key causes of destruction:
Neglecting Salah (Prayer) – They admitted, “We were not among those who prayed.” Prayer is the pillar of faith, and abandoning it severs the connection with Allah.
Ignoring the Poor – “We did not feed the needy.” Islam emphasizes helping the weak and poor. Neglecting this duty reflects arrogance and selfishness.
Following Vain Talks & Corruption – “We indulged with those who indulged.” They wasted time in useless, sinful gatherings and followed the crowd in wrongdoing.
Denying the Day of Judgment – “We used to deny the Day of Recompense.” Their disbelief led them to live heedlessly without accountability.
🌸 Simplified Understanding
Allah is warning us through their own confession: neglecting prayer, ignoring the poor, wasting life in vain activities, and denying the Hereafter lead to Hellfire.
👉 The message is clear: establish prayer, help the needy, guard your tongue and actions, and believe firmly in the Day of Judgment.
