Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

1️⃣ The Arsh is the greatest creation of Allah

The Arsh is a real throne, created by Allah, and it is the largest, highest, and most magnificent of all His creations.

Allah says:

“Lord of the Mighty Throne.”
(Qur’an 9:129)

and

“Lord of the Glorious Throne.”
(Qur’an 23:116)

The Qur’an never describes anything greater than the Arsh.

2️⃣ It is above all creation

Everything is below the Throne:

  • the seven heavens

  • the kursī

  • the angels

  • all creation

Allah is above the Throne in a manner befitting His Majesty, without comparison to His creation.

“Then He rose over the Throne.”
(Seven times in the Qur’an)

3️⃣ The Arsh is carried by mighty angels

The Qur’an describes the Hamalat al-‘Arsh — the angels who carry the Throne:

وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَانِيَةٌ
“On that Day, eight angels will bear the Throne of your Lord above them.”
(Qur’an 69:17)

The Prophet ﷺ described them as extremely huge and powerful.

4️⃣ It existed before the heavens and the earth

In an authentic hadith:

كان الله ولم يكن شيء غيره، وكان عرشه على الماء

“Allah existed and nothing else was with Him, and His Throne was upon water.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari)

This matches the ayah you read:

وَكَانَ عَرْشُهُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ
“And His Throne was upon water.”
(Qur’an 11:7)

5️⃣ The Arsh is the ceiling of all creation

Ibn Abbas (ra) said:

“The Kursī is the footstool, and the Arsh is the roof of all creation.”

Meaning:
Nothing is above the Throne except Allah.

6️⃣ The Arsh is a physical creation, not metaphor

Some people think “Arsh” means “authority” or “kingdom” only.
But the Qur’an and Sunnah show clearly:

  • It has bearers (angels)

  • It has sides

  • It was on water

  • It will be carried on the Day of Judgment

So it is a real creation, not a symbol.

7️⃣ The Arsh shakes from joy at righteousness

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The Throne of the Most Merciful shook from the death of Sa‘d ibn Mu‘adh.”
(Sahih Muslim)

This proves:

  • The Arsh can react.

  • It is a living creation honoring the righteous.

📌 Summary: What is the Arsh?

The Arsh is:

  • the greatest created thing

  • the highest point of all creation

  • the roof of the universe

  • carried by mighty angels

  • above the Kursī

  • above the seven heavens

  • where Allah rose above (in a manner befitting Him)

And Allah alone is above the Arsh — nothing is above Him.
