🌿 The Secret of Solitude with Allah
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
🌸 Introduction
My beloved brothers and sisters, do you know the secret to inner peace, relief from worries, and strength to face life’s challenges?
It lies in khalwah (خلوة) — purposeful solitude with Allah ﷻ.
This is not isolation born of sadness or fear. It is a chosen, peaceful state where your heart disconnects from distractions and connects deeply with your Lord.
🌙 What is Solitude with Allah?
Solitude (Khalwah): A deliberate time of being alone with Allah ﷻ to reflect, repent, and strengthen faith.
Isolation: An unchosen state that often leads to emptiness, sadness, and sin.
Solitude restores and replenishes, while isolation drains and darkens.
🌺 Benefits of Solitude with Allah
Peace and serenity replace anxiety and fear.
A chance to reflect on sins and repent sincerely.
Deep connection through du‘a and dhikr.
Renewed trust that Allah ﷻ is closer than our jugular vein:
“And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein.”
(Al-Qur’an, Surah Qaf 50:16)
📖 Prophets Practiced Solitude
Every prophet and messenger embraced solitude with Allah:
Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام):
“I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allah and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy.”
(Al-Qur’an, Maryam 19:48)
Prophet Musa (عليه السلام): Spent 30 nights in solitude at Mount Sinai (Surah Al-A‘raf 7:142).
Prophet Zakariya (عليه السلام): Given a sign to remain in silent solitude for 3 days (Surah Maryam 19:10).
Asiyah (wife of Pharaoh):
“My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people.”
(Al-Qur’an, At-Tahrim 66:11)
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: The greatest example, retreating to Ghar Hira (Cave of Hira) before revelation, reflecting in solitude with Allah.
🌿 Practical Steps for Us
Take 5–10 minutes daily for solitude with Allah.
Use this time to:
Make du‘a and pour out your worries.
Recite Qur’an or dhikr (e.g., Fortress of the Muslim).
Reflect on Allah’s creation and your blessings.
Repent sincerely for past mistakes.
🕌 Hadith Reminder
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Worship Allah as if you see Him, for if you do not see Him, know that He sees you.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 8 — Hadith of Jibreel)
This is the essence of solitude: living with the awareness that Allah sees you at all times.
