Al-Khwarizmi – The Man Behind the Algorithm

📝 Who Was Al-Khwarizmi?

Al-Khwarizmi (780–850 CE) was a brilliant Muslim mathematician, astronomer, and geographer. He lived in Baghdad during the Golden Age of Islam, serving at the famous House of Wisdom (Bayt al-Hikmah) — a center for knowledge, translation, and innovation.

His name gave birth to the word “Algorithm”, the very foundation of today’s computer science. He is also known as the Father of Algebra (Al-Jabr).

🧮 His Contributions

• Wrote the groundbreaking book Kitab al-Jabr wa al-Muqabala — introducing algebra as a new branch of mathematics.

• Introduced Hindu-Arabic numerals (0–9) to the world, making modern calculation possible.

• Laid the foundations for algorithms, the step-by-step rules that power today’s computers, smartphones, and the internet.

• Improved methods of astronomy and geography, creating detailed maps of the known world.

📖 Inspiration from Islam

Allah ﷻ says:
“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.”
(Al-Qur’an, 3:190)

Al-Khwarizmi saw mathematics as a language of Allah’s creation — a tool to understand the balance and order of the universe.

🌍 His Legacy

Without Al-Khwarizmi’s contributions:

• There would be no modern mathematics.

• No computers, coding, Google, or smartphones.

• No scientific revolution in Europe.

He built the foundation of modern technology that we use every single day.
