The Few Whom Shayṭān Cannot Touch

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَكَ هَـٰذَا الَّذِي كَرَّمْتَ عَلَيَّ لَئِنْ أَخَّرْتَنِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَأَحْتَنِكَنَّ ذُرِّيَّتَهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا۝٦۲

“Iblīs said: ‘Do You see this one whom You have honored above me?
If You delay me until the Day of Resurrection, I will surely destroy his descendants — except for a few.’”
(Al-Isrā 17:62)

إِنَّ عِبَادِي لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانٌ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ وَكِيلًا۝٦٥

“Indeed, over My [believing] servants you have no authority.
And sufficient is your Lord as Disposer of affairs.”
(Al-Isrā 17:65)

🌙 Who are “the few” whom Shayṭān cannot harm?

According to classical tafsīr (Ibn Kathīr, Al-Ṭabarī),
these “few” are those among the children of Ādam who remain sincere in their faith —

the true servants of Allah, who obey Him with humility and sincerity.

They are the people who:

Stay steadfast upon tawheed and sincerity (ikhlāṣ).
Constantly remember Allah (dhikr) and seek refuge in Him.
Quickly repent when they sin.
Follow the Sunnah and avoid arrogance and envy.
Live with trust (tawakkul) in Allah and obedience to His commands.

🌤️ How to Know You’re Among Them

If you:

✅ Love Allah and His Messenger ﷺ more than anything.
✅ Struggle against your nafs and seek forgiveness often.
✅ Pray consistently, especially Fajr and ‘Isha.
✅ Remember Allah in your home, work, and heart.
✅ Act sincerely even when no one is watching.
✅ Place your trust in Allah in all matters —

Then, in shā’ Allāh, you are among those few whom Shayṭān cannot overpower.

🌿 Qur’anic Assurance

“Indeed, he (Shayṭān) has no power over those who believe and rely upon their Lord.”
(Surah An-Naḥl 16:99)

🌸 A Short Du‘ā:

“O Allah, I seek refuge with You from Shayṭān the accursed — from his madness, his pride, and his poetry.”

(Sunan Abu Dawud 775, Ahmad 4/85 — Sahih)

“O Allah, make us among Your servants over whom Shayṭān has no power.”

📖 1️⃣ Qur’anic foundation of the du‘ā

Allah Himself said:

“Indeed, over My [believing] servants you have no authority.”
(Al-Isrā 17:65)

So, asking Allah to make us among those servants is perfectly aligned with the Qur’an — even if the exact du‘ā phrasing is not narrated.

🌿 2️⃣ Authentic Hadiths with the same meaning

✅ a. Seeking protection from Shayṭān

Prophet ﷺ said:

“When any one of you enters his house and mentions the Name of Allah, Shayṭān says: ‘You have no lodging here tonight.’
When he eats and mentions the Name of Allah, Shayṭān says: ‘You have no food here.’”

(Sahih Muslim 2018)

This shows that constant remembrance of Allah protects from Shayṭān’s power.

✅ b. Du‘ā for protection from Shayṭān

The Prophet ﷺ used to say in his prayers:

“O Allah, I seek refuge with You from Shayṭān the accursed — from his madness, his pride, and his poetry.”
(Sunan Abu Dawud 775, Ahmad 4/85 — Sahih)

This is a direct prophetic du‘ā for protection from Shayṭān’s influence.
