📖 The Verse

“[Charity is] for the poor who have been restricted for the cause of Allah, unable to move about in the land. An ignorant person would think them self-sufficient because of their restraint, but you will know them by their sign. They do not ask people persistently. And whatever you spend of good – indeed, Allah is Knowing of it.”
(Al-Qur’an 2:273)

This verse comes in Surah Al-Baqarah, in a series of verses encouraging charity (sadaqah) and teaching believers who truly deserves support.

During the time of the Prophet ﷺ, some Muslims dedicated themselves fully to learning and serving Islam. Because of this, they could not travel or work to earn income. They were financially struggling — yet they maintained dignity and did not beg.
