🌙 Sleepiness & Salah: What Should You Do?
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
Sometimes after Maghrib, we feel very sleepy or low in energy while waiting for Isha. Should we force ourselves to stay in the masjid, or go home and rest?
📖 Guidance from Qur’an & Sunnah
🔹 If too sleepy:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When one of you feels drowsy while praying, let him sleep until he knows what he is reciting. For perhaps he intends to seek forgiveness but ends up insulting himself.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 212) Refferance(Sahih Muslim 786) Refferance
👉 It is better to rest first, so you can pray with khushu’ (focus).
🔹 If able to stay awake:
The Prophet ﷺ also said:
“The one who waits for prayer after prayer, nothing keeps him sitting in his place except waiting for prayer, the angels pray for him: ‘O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, have mercy on him.’”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 659 ) Refferance
👉 Remaining in the masjid and waiting for Isha brings the reward of the angels’ dua.
⚖️ The Balance in Islam
✅ Too sleepy? → Rest first, then pray with energy.
✅ Still awake? → Stay in masjid with dhikr & Qur’an until Isha.
✨ Islam teaches balance: worship Allah with a clear mind and heart, not while fighting sleep.
💭 Reflection for today:
Do I prioritize quality in my salah, or do I sometimes push myself beyond my limit?
