🌙 Shahada Series – Lesson 2

"Deep Meaning of “La ilaha illallah”

🕌 The Words of Shahada

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ

“There is no god but Allah.”

This is the first part of the Shahada and the heart of Islam. It has two sides:

1. Negation (لا إِلٰهَ) → “There is no god” (rejecting all false gods).

2. Affirmation (إِلَّا اللهُ) → “except Allah” (accepting only Allah as the true God).

📖 Qur’an Evidence

Allah ﷻ says:

“And We did not send any Messenger before you but We revealed to him that: There is no deity except Me, so worship Me.”
(Surah Al-Anbiya 21:25)

And He says:

“So whoever disbelieves in false gods and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold…”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:256)

🌟 Hadith Evidence

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever dies knowing that there is no god but Allah will enter Paradise.”
(Sahih Muslim, 26)

🌱 Simple Explanation

The meaning of La ilaha illallah is not only to say it with tongue, but to:

• Reject worshipping idols, people, wealth, status, or desires.

• Submit to Allah alone in prayers, obedience, and reliance.

💡 Practical Understanding

• A Muslim who lives by La ilaha illallah seeks help only from Allah, not superstitions.

• In daily life, this means:

  • When praying → pray only to Allah.

  • When in hardship → ask Allah first.

  • When successful → thank Allah.

• Do I truly depend only on Allah, or do I put my trust in other things?

• How can I strengthen my Tawheed (oneness of Allah) in my daily life?
