🔹 The Hadith

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When the food is served, and the prayer is established, then begin with the food.”

🔹 Sources

  1. Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (Hadith no. 673, Kitāb al-Adhān) Refferance

  2. Sunan Ibn Majah 934 Refferance

🔹 Explanation by Scholars

  • The meaning is not to neglect ṣalāh, but to avoid praying while your heart is distracted by hunger and the presence of food.

  • Imām al-Nawawī (Sharḥ Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim) explained: The wisdom is so the person can pray with full khushū‘ (concentration).

  • However, it applies when the food is already served and one is genuinely hungry. It is not recommended to purposely delay ṣalāh to cook or bring food.

🌿 Lesson

  • Don’t pray while hungry with food in front of you.

  • Don’t pray while holding back the urge to go to the toilet Refferance

  • Islam wants us to pray with khushū‘ (calm heart & focus).

📖 Reminder: True ṣalāh is not just standing and reciting, but being fully present before Allah.

👉 What do you think — do we sometimes rush into ṣalāh without preparing our mind and body first?
