Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Many people say:

"I only follow the Qur'an."

As Muslims, we all agree that the Qur'an is the perfect Word of Allah.

But an important question remains:

What does the Qur'an itself command us regarding Prophet Muhammad ﷺ?

The answer is clear.

Allah Commands Us to Obey the Messenger ﷺ

Allah says:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ

"O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger..."

(Surah An-Nisa 4:59)

Notice that Allah did not simply say:

"Obey the Qur'an."

Rather, Allah specifically commands:

• Obey Allah.

• Obey the Messenger.

Obeying the Messenger Is Obeying Allah

Allah says:

مَّن يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللَّهَ

"Whoever obeys the Messenger has indeed obeyed Allah."

(Surah An-Nisa 4:80)

This is one of the clearest verses in the Qur'an.

Allah Himself connects obedience to the Messenger ﷺ with obedience to Him.

Loving Allah Means Following the Prophet ﷺ

Allah says:

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ

"Say (O Muhammad), 'If you truly love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins.'"

(Surah Aal 'Imran 3:31)

This verse is remarkable.

Allah did not say:

"If you love Allah, simply claim to love Him."

Instead, Allah made following the Messenger ﷺ the proof of loving Him.

The Prophet ﷺ Is Our Best Example

Allah says:

لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ

"Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example."

(Surah Al-Ahzab 33:21)

How can someone take the Prophet ﷺ as the best example if they refuse to learn from his life, teachings, and guidance?

The Messenger ﷺ Explains the Revelation

Allah says:

وَأَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الذِّكْرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ

"We revealed to you the Reminder so that you may explain to the people what has been revealed to them."

(Surah An-Nahl 16:44)

The Prophet ﷺ did not merely deliver the Qur'an.

Allah entrusted him with explaining it.

Can We Separate the Qur'an from the Messenger ﷺ?

The Qur'an repeatedly says:

• Obey Allah and the Messenger.

• Follow the Messenger.

• Take him as your example.

• Accept his judgment.

• Love Allah by following him.

The Qur'an never teaches believers to separate Allah's Book from Allah's Messenger ﷺ.

What About the Prophet's Human Mistakes?

Some people mention verses where Allah corrected the Prophet ﷺ.

This actually strengthens our faith.

It shows that:

• The Prophet ﷺ was human.

• Allah corrected him whenever necessary.

• The Qur'an openly records those corrections.

Had the Prophet ﷺ hidden revelation or invented religion, these verses would never have remained in the Qur'an.

Instead, they prove that revelation supervised him and that Allah preserved the truth.

What About the Sunnah?

Muslims do not believe the Sunnah is equal to the Qur'an.

The Qur'an is Allah's revealed speech.

The authentic Sunnah is the explanation and practical example given by the Messenger ﷺ, whom Allah commanded us to obey.

This is why Muslims throughout history preserved authentic hadith with great care, distinguishing authentic reports from weak and fabricated ones.

A Reminder for Every Muslim

This article is not about attacking anyone.

It is about asking ourselves:

• Do I truly love Allah?

• Do I obey His Messenger ﷺ?

• Do I take him as my example?

• Am I following the Qur'an as Allah intended?

Every Muslim should reflect on these questions sincerely.

Conclusion

Our success lies in holding firmly to what Allah has revealed and in following the Messenger whom Allah sent to teach, explain, and exemplify that revelation.

May Allah fill our hearts with love for Him, love for His final Messenger Muhammad ﷺ, love for his family, his noble Companions (رضي الله عنهم), and enable us to follow the Qur'an and the authentic Sunnah with sincerity until we meet Him.
