Be Patient, Seek Forgiveness, and Remember Allah Daily
Surah Ghāfir (40:55)
Translation:
"So be patient, [O Muhammad]. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And ask forgiveness for your sin and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning."
— Surah Ghāfir (40:55)

Context of the Verse
This verse was revealed when the Prophet ﷺ faced intense rejection, ridicule, and hardship from his people. Allah comforted and strengthened him with three timeless commands that apply to every believer:
Be patient.
Seek Allah's forgiveness.
Remember and glorify Allah regularly.
These are the keys to remaining steadfast through life's trials.
A Simple Understanding
1. "Be patient..."
Patience (ṣabr) is not passive waiting. It means remaining firm in obedience to Allah, avoiding sin, and trusting Him during difficulties.
No matter how long justice seems delayed, Allah's promise will never fail.
2. "Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth."
Allah's promises are certain:
Every hardship has wisdom.
Every righteous deed is rewarded.
Every injustice will be judged.
Paradise is real.
Allah never breaks His promise.
Our timeline is limited, but Allah's timing is perfect.
3. "Ask forgiveness..."
Even though the Prophet ﷺ was the best of creation, Allah instructed him to seek forgiveness regularly.
This teaches us that:
No one should feel too righteous to make istighfār.
Seeking forgiveness purifies the heart.
Istighfār brings Allah's mercy, blessings, and relief from worries.
4. "Glorify your Lord in the evening and the morning."
Begin and end each day by remembering Allah.
This includes:
Saying Subḥānallāh, Alḥamdulillāh, Allāhu Akbar.
Making morning and evening adhkār.
Praying Fajr and Maghrib with remembrance of Allah.
A heart connected to Allah finds peace even when circumstances remain difficult.
Lessons We Can Apply Today
Patience is strengthened by trust in Allah.
Never doubt Allah's promises.
Make istighfār a daily habit.
Start and end every day remembering Allah.
Difficult times are temporary, but Allah's reward is eternal.
Reflection
When facing hardship, ask yourself:
Am I only waiting for my situation to change, or am I becoming closer to Allah while I wait?
A Short Du'a
Meaning:
O Allah, make us among the patient, forgive our sins, and keep our tongues constantly remembering You morning and evening. Āmīn.
