A Powerful Du‘a for Debt Relief

Narrated by Ali (RA):
A man who had a contract of emancipation (Mukatib) came to Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA) and said:

“I am unable to fulfill my agreement, so help me.”

Ali (RA) replied:

“Shall I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me? Even if you had a debt as heavy as a mountain, Allah would pay it off for you. Say:”

The Du‘a:
اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

Transliteration:
Allāhumma-kfinī biḥalālika ‘an ḥarāmika, wa aghninī bifaḍlika ‘amman siwāka

Meaning:
“O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful against what You have made unlawful, and make me independent by Your bounty from all others besides You.”

Key Lessons:

• Debt is a heavy burden, but Allah has provided a way out through turning to Him sincerely.

• This du‘a is a shield against falling into haram means of seeking provision.

• True independence comes only from Allah’s bounty, not from people.
