๐Ÿ“– The Verse

โ€œO you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim toward the defective thereof, spending from that while you would not take it yourself except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.โ€
(Al-Qurโ€™an 2:267)

๐Ÿ”Ž 1. Context of This Verse

This verse is from Surah Al-Baqarah, a chapter that gives many rulings and guidance on charity, sincerity, and social responsibility.

Before and after this verse, Allah speaks about:

  • Spending in His cause.

  • The rewards of charity.

  • The importance of sincerity.

  • Avoiding showing off or harming others with reminders of charity.

Here, Allah teaches the quality of what we give, not just the act of giving.

๐Ÿ“š 2. Breakdown & Interpretation

๐ŸŒฑ โ€œSpend from the good things which you have earnedโ€ฆโ€

  • Give from halal (lawful) earnings.

  • Give from things that are valuable and beneficial.

  • Charity should come from honest income.

Islam does not accept charity from haram earnings.

๐ŸŒพ โ€œโ€ฆand from that which We have produced for you from the earth.โ€

  • Crops

  • Fruits

  • Agriculture

  • Business products

  • Any provision from Allah

Everything we own is ultimately from Allah.

๐Ÿšซ โ€œDo not aim toward the defectiveโ€ฆโ€

This is very powerful.

Allah says:

  • Do not choose the worst quality to give away.

  • Do not donate what is broken, expired, unwanted, or useless.

  • Do not give something you yourself would reject.

Imagine: Would you accept torn clothes, spoiled food, or damaged items?
If not โ€” why offer that to Allah?

๐Ÿ‘ โ€œโ€ฆwhile you would not take it except with closed eyesโ€ฆโ€

Meaning: You would only accept it out of embarrassment or desperation.

Allah is teaching us: Treat charity with dignity and sincerity.

๐Ÿคฒ โ€œAllah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.โ€

  • Allah does not need our charity.

  • We need the reward.

  • Giving benefits us, not Him.

He is:

  • Al-Ghani (The Self-Sufficient)

  • Al-Hameed (The Praiseworthy)

๐ŸŒŸ 3. Simplified Understanding

This verse teaches:

โœ” Give from halal income.
โœ” Give your best, not your leftovers.
โœ” Respect the dignity of those receiving charity.
โœ” Remember โ€” Allah doesnโ€™t need your money, but you need His reward.

๐Ÿ’Ž 4. Deep Lesson for Today

Many people:

  • Clean their house and donate old, damaged items.

  • Give small coins while keeping luxury for themselves.

  • Donate expired or low-quality goods.

But Allah asks: Would you accept it yourself?

If the answer is no โ€” donโ€™t give it.

True charity:

  • Comes from sincerity.

  • Comes from gratitude.

  • Comes from respect.

๐ŸŒฟ Reflection Questions

  • Do I give from what I love โ€” or from what I donโ€™t need?

  • Is my charity from halal income?

  • Do I give with honor or carelessness?

๐Ÿ•Š Final Message

Give Allah your best โ€”
Because He has already given you everything.
