Authentic Supplications from the Sunnah with References

Wind and rain are among the great signs of Allahโ€™s power. They can be a mercy, a blessing, or a warning. The Prophet ๏ทบ taught us specific duสฟฤ to recite during these moments, guiding us to respond with faith, humility, and reliance upon Allah.

This article presents authentic narrations with verified Arabic text, accurate translations, references, and explanations.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ 1. Duสฟฤ When Strong Wind Blows

๐Ÿ“– Authentic Hadith

When the wind blew strongly, the Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ would say:

Transliteration

Allฤhumma innฤซ asโ€™aluka khayrahฤ, wa khayra mฤ fฤซhฤ, wa khayra mฤ ursilat bih, wa aสฟลซdhu bika min sharrihฤ, wa sharri mฤ fฤซhฤ, wa sharri mฤ ursilat bih.

Authentic Translation

โ€œO Allah, I ask You for its goodness, the goodness within it, and the goodness it was sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil within it, and the evil it was sent with.โ€

๐Ÿ“š Reference

Sahih Muslim 899b

Refferance

  • Book of Prayer for Rain (Kitฤb al-Istisqฤโ€™)

  • Hadith No. 899

Authenticity: Sahih (Authentic)

Explanation

The Prophet ๏ทบ did not curse the wind. Instead, he recognized:

  • Wind may bring mercy (rain, cooling air, growth).

  • Wind may bring punishment (as happened to the people of สฟฤ€d โ€” Qurโ€™an 69:6).

This duสฟฤ teaches:

  • Everything is sent by Allah.

  • Natural events are under divine command.

  • A believer turns to Allah in both fear and hope.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ 2. Duสฟฤ When Rain Begins to Fall

๐Ÿ“– Authentic Hadith

It is narrated that when rain fell, the Prophet ๏ทบ would say:

Transliteration

Allฤhumma แนฃayyiban nฤfiสฟฤ.

Authentic Translation

โ€œO Allah, make it beneficial rain.โ€

๐Ÿ“š Reference

Sahih al-Bukhari 1032

Refferance

Authenticity: Sahih

Explanation

The Prophet ๏ทบ asked specifically for beneficial rain. Rain can:

  • Nourish crops and revive the earth.

  • Or cause floods and destruction.

This duสฟฤ teaches us to ask not just for blessings โ€” but for blessings that are beneficial.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ 3. Duสฟฤ After Rain Falls

After rainfall, the Prophet ๏ทบ would say:

Transliteration

Muแนญirnฤ bi faแธlillฤhi wa raแธฅmatih.

Authentic Translation

โ€œWe have been given rain by the ูุถู„ (grace) and mercy of Allah.โ€

๐Ÿ“š Reference

  • แนขaแธฅฤซแธฅ al-Bukhฤrฤซ

  • Hadith No. 846

Refferance

Authenticity: Sahih

Explanation

This statement corrects belief. The rain is not due to:

  • Nature alone

  • Seasons alone

  • Stars or luck

Rather, it is from the grace and mercy of Allah.

The Prophet ๏ทบ warned against attributing rain to stars instead of Allah (see แนขaแธฅฤซแธฅ Muslim, Book of Faith).

๐ŸŒง๏ธ 4. Duสฟฤ When Rain Becomes Excessive or Harmful

When rain became too heavy and harmful, the Prophet ๏ทบ said:

Transliteration

Allฤhumma แธฅawฤlaynฤ wa lฤ สฟalaynฤ.
Allฤhumma สฟalฤ al-ฤkฤm wa al-แบ“irฤb, wa buแนญลซn al-awdiyah, wa manฤbit al-shajar.

Authentic Translation

โ€œO Allah, around us and not upon us.
O Allah, upon the hills, the mountains, the valleys, and the places where trees grow.โ€

๐Ÿ“š Reference

  • แนขaแธฅฤซแธฅ al-Bukhฤrฤซ, Hadith No. 1014

Refferance

  • แนขaแธฅฤซแธฅ Muslim, Hadith No. 897

Refferance

Authenticity: Sahih

Explanation

The Prophet ๏ทบ did not reject rain entirely. Instead, he asked for:

  • Protection from harm

  • Benefit redirected to safe areas

This shows balance โ€” we ask for mercy without destruction.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ 5. Is Duสฟฤ Accepted During Rain?

The Prophet ๏ทบ said:

โ€œTwo supplications are not rejected: at the time of the call to prayer and during rainfall.โ€

๐Ÿ“š Reference

  • Sunan Abฤซ Dฤwลซd (2540)

  • Graded Hasan (sound) by scholars

This means rainfall is a blessed time to increase du

๐ŸŒŸ Final Reflection

The Sunnah teaches us how to respond spiritually to natural events:

  • Wind โ†’ Seek protection and goodness

  • ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Rain begins โ†’ Ask for benefit

  • ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ After rain โ†’ Attribute it to Allahโ€™s mercy

  • ๐ŸŒŠ Excess rain โ†’ Ask for protection

These supplications strengthen:

  • Tawแธฅฤซd (pure belief in Allah)

  • Tawakkul (reliance upon Him)

  • Gratitude for blessings

  • Fear of divine punishment

May Allah make every wind a mercy and every rain a blessing for us.

โ€œO Allah, make it a mercy and not a punishment.โ€
