A Duโ€˜a the Prophet ๏ทบ Frequently Made in Prayer

(Debts Part 2)

Narrated by Aisha (RA):
The Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ used to say in his prayers:

Transliteration:
Allฤhumma innฤซ aโ€˜ลซdhu bika min โ€˜adhฤbil-qabr, wa aโ€˜ลซdhu bika min fitnatil-Masฤซแธฅid-Dajjฤl, wa aโ€˜ลซdhu bika min fitnatil-maแธฅyฤ wa fitnatil-mamฤt. Allฤhumma innฤซ aโ€˜ลซdhu bika minal-maโ€™tham wal-maghram.

Meaning:
โ€œO Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave, from the trials of the false Messiah (Dajjal), from the trials of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sin and from debt.โ€

Why Did the Prophet ๏ทบ Emphasize Debt?

When someone asked why he often sought refuge from debt, the Prophet ๏ทบ replied:

โ€œA person in debt tells lies whenever he speaks and breaks promises whenever he makes them.โ€

This shows how debt can spiritually and morally harm a person if left unmanaged.

Key Lessons

  • Comprehensive Protection: This duโ€˜a seeks refuge from the most dangerous trials: the grave, the Dajjal, life, death, sins, and debt.

  • Debt Is Serious: It is not only a financial issue but can lead to lying and breaking trust.

  • Sunnah Reminder: Include this duโ€˜a in your daily prayers, especially before Taslim (ending salah).

โœจ Reflection:
How often do we think of debt as a spiritual test? Make this duโ€˜a regularly, and reflect on whether we manage our lives in ways that protect us from unnecessary burdens.
